Happy Friday wonderful kinder parents!

Notes:

-We began using the Splash Math website during math. Kids get to use it a few time a week. Splash Math works through the different standards and progressively gets harder as they get it right. I love that it works at their own level! Also, I like that we get a progress report each week to show how the students are doing. You should have received an email yesterday with your child's login info and the website. If you did not, please let me know so I can get you the information.

-Monday February 13th 10:00 am is our Class Chapel! We will be leading in singing and performing a skit for the school. Parents are more than welcome to come, we would love to see you there!

-Tuesday February 14th 1:15- Valentine's Day Party. We are still looking for 2 volunteers, let me know if you can make it. We will be having treats. You can donate if you would like but it is not required.

What have we been working on in class

Reading- We are really focusing on blending and segmenting words right now and the students are doing great! My goal is to have them slowly stop sounding out. We are practicing a lot at school and this is great to practice at home, especially with the small paper decodable readers I send home once or twice a week.

Math- In math we are working on becoming fluent in addition and subtraction! We will soon start timed tests (6 problems in a minute). These will not come home, as students start at +0 and I add a new one each time they pass. So it is completely at their pace. We are also beginning to work on measurement/ positions/ shapes. I call this the fun math.

Writing- We have started our unit on "Writing for a Reason". Students have been writing posters, reviews of books, and letters. They are having so much fun with this unit and being very creative! Again I apologize if they are making posters or writing demanding letters!

Pictures!
Sharing writing

This week we focused on a STEM projects. Kids had to construct their own bed with the materials given. We read Goldilocks and the three bears, so our Goldilocks had to fit on the bed. It was so fun watching them be creative! They loved it!

Practicing for our class chapel! The kids have worked so hard this week!

Pics

Well we had a short week, but we got a lot accomplished! We finished up our MAP and DIBELS testing, had our spelling test, learned some more about MLK, and of course worked on reading and math. The students have been troupers with all of our testing, especially since I am working on report cards as well!

Next week will be busy! Tuesday is our field trip to OMSI, please remember to have your child wear their Sonshine shirts, and bring a booster. Thursday and Friday are now full days. Open House is on Thursday, pizza at 5:30 and Open House beginning at 6:30. On top of that we will also be finishing up testing for report cards.

Report cards will be out in a few weeks. In second quarter we do not have conferences, however, if you would like one I would love to sit down together.

I look forward to getting back into the routine of things next week!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

The few pictures I got this week.

The students watched the inauguration today. we talked about how this historical moment happens every 4 years, and that who ever is our President, that we should be respectful of them. After we watched the inauguration  we prayed as a class. Let me tell you, I got a little watery eyed hearing these kindergarteners praying for our President, and praying that the leaders would know God and that they would protect our country. I say it often, but this is such a wonderful group of kiddos. Cute moment, they all stood and said the presidents pledge as he did, and clapped at all the right moments!

Some recess fun inside
