Homework

Homework starts this week! Reading logs will be sent home each Friday before the next week, with student's sight words to practice. Reading logs should be returned each Friday. Students should spend about 15 minutes each night reading and practicing sight words. Weekends are also a great time to practice sight words. If your family  is like ours, I have found that is when our family has the most time to work on them. Students will be graded on their sight words, they will be tested each week. Some sight words will be repeated throughout the weeks. Here are some ideas to help with sight words.

  • Flash cards.
  • Write them down 5 times each.
  • While reading you can stop and have them read the sight words.
  • Magnets.
  • They can practice spelling them in the car.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us.

Thank you,

Week 4 and Going Strong!

Happy Friday!

It was a wonderful week to be in our Kindergarten Class!

Our Week at a Glance

-Tuesday was Picture Day.  I have never seen so many smiling faces all in one place.  Fingers crossed that everyone's picture comes out amazing.

-Wednesday we had our first Fire Drill!!  There were a few tears, but overall everyone did Fantastic!  They all lined up and headed outside immediately.  I was one proud teacher :)

-Thursday was our very first Field Trip to the Felida Fire Station.  The kids (and teachers) had an absolute blast.  The students had a tour of the station (including where they eat and sleep!)  They were able to climb inside the fire truck, and lastly they were privileged to have a real ride on an old-fashioned fire truck.

Academics

Math- we studied writing our numbers 1-5 and learned the concept of Greater than...

Reading- We are finishing up our intro. section of Journeys Reading and should be ready to begin our first topic which is Our Community and Families.

Daily 5- We are increasing our reading Stamina to 10 minutes a day.  We are getting stronger every day!  We have added Listen to Books, Word Work, Read to Self and Read to Someone.  We also have two ipads the students can use for Reading.

Our next field trip will be on Wednesday, October 7 from 1:00-2:30pm.  The cost is $5.00 per student and chaperones are free. I will be sending home the permission slips today in the OWL folders.

Friday, October 16th is Grandparent's Day at Sonshine Christian.  Please remind Grandparents about this special event.  It is from 9:00am-12:00pm.  More details coming soon!!

Your Child's O.W.L. Folder comes home each day, and it needs to be returned the next day.  Please remember to take out your child's completed work to make room for more awesome assignments coming your way.

Our Class starts promptly at 8:30am.  Please make every attempt to be at school on time.  When students come in late, it is disruptive to our young learners already at school.  Thanks!! :)

Week 3

It was our first full week back to school and I think the kids were a little more tired by the end!

Last week in reading we continued to work on our stamina in Daily 5, they are doing great! On Monday we got to read with the 2nd and 3rd graders. There are some cute pictures below. Next week we will introduce the I-Pads and then our whole Daily 5 will be up and running. After this we will be able to start working with students in small groups which will be a lot fun. Some things to work on in reading are Letters, sounds, rhyming, and beginning sounds.

In math we started our curriculum and our stations. The first day was a little rocky but it’s getting better=) You have to take everything slowly in Kindergarten. Some things you can work on at home in math are counting to 50, or if they can do that 100, and writing their numbers to 10.

We finished up our all about me unit this week and will be starting our community helpers group next week, the fire station will help us kick it off!

Next week in Bible we will be learning about Noah. Our Bible verse will be “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1

We had a great second week!

In reading we have been practicing our daily 5 and building our stamina! The first day students were able to read to self for about 30 seconds lol... we are now at 10 minutes! We have also begun reading to someone, and next week we will start our word work and listen to reading.

In math we are learning the routine for math stations. They have been exploring different manipulatives and next week we will begin our math curriculum.

In Bible we have been learning about the 7 days of creation. We learned our first ABC Bible verse this week "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. Next week I will begin sending home their bible verse to be practiced at home, which we will test on Fridays.

Awesome First Week

We had such a great first week! We can tell it is going to be a great year. All of your kiddos are very sweet, and eager to learn (our favorite!) This week we mostly practiced our rules, learned our routines, and began teaching how to use the supplies in the class for example glue!;) They all did great.

Notes
·         We do heat up lunches if needed. If your child needs a spoon or fork will please provide one. We do have emergency ones if needed.
·         Our take home folders are taken home each night to be checked and can be brought back each morning.
·         Next week students can begin to bring their own snacks. In the mornings they will take them out of their lunch box to save for later. We do have backup on any days they forget.
·         The “all about me” bags are due on Tuesday. Students can put anything inside about themselves.

·         Tuesday the 15th is our Curriculum night. We encourage everyone to come so we can give you more information on what we are teaching, any homework, field trips, and after school opportunities. This will be a great time to ask any questions as well.

And our favorite, pictures!
