Week 2 9/15

Week 2:
Our second week is finished and next week we will begin to get into our curriculum.
What are we learning!
In reading, we will be focusing on letters A-F, rhyming, and telling the difference between letters and numbers.
Math- in math this week we are focusing on reading, writing, and counting to 5.
Writing- In writing we are learning that our pictures can tell a story. Students are beginning to ask how to spell and write letters, which is always so fun to see!
Bible- next week we will learn about Noah and how he keeps his promises! We will also be doing a fun rainbow art on Friday to go with this=)
Social studies- We are finishing up our rules unit and we will begin to learn about what makes a good friend. All very important things to learn in kindergarten=)

Side Notes
*We are also beginning our sight word lists Monday. The goal is to complete one list every 1-2 weeks. To pass the list students should be able to read the sight word within 3-5 seconds. Again in the beginning this may take longer to finish a list and that is okay. Here are a few examples of how you can practice
-flash cards
-write them on white boards
-find them in books
-make them with play dough
-read our little readers that are sent home, or find some online (mostly made of sight words)

*If you have not signed your child’s internet permission slip sent home on Thursday, please do so this weekend. Students get to use our I-pads to read stories, play reading games (hooked on phonics), and to play math games. In kindergarten students will not be online unless with an adult.

Special dates
9/21- Give 24. Our PTL has set up this giving event with Give 24. I am personally excited about this as it will help with our back play ground area, which includes resurfacing the blacktop and leveling the playing field.
10/11-Picture Day!
10/13- Grandparents Day from 9-11:30.
10/19-10/20- No school, conferences.

Welcome!

Welcome to our class blog! Here you will find details about what we are learning, upcoming information and dates, as well as my favorite, pictures.

This week we focused on talking about rules and why they are important. We also focused on daily routines. Next week we will learn some more routines for our reading and math time.

But of course it was not all rules and routines, we were able to do some fun crafts, read some stories, play, and make portraits of our selves, that you will find hung in the hallway next week.

Reminder that Tuesday in our Curriculum Night at 6:30, I hope to see everyone there! Kids are welcome though from past and personal experience it is easier without them, as they tend to get bored;)

Here are a few pictures of our week!
