February, 26th

I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend! This next week coming up is a little different because of the teacher work day on Wednesday. Also a reminder that Tuesday evening is our open house! It is just a time of families to come into the classrooms and look around, and see the fun things their students have been doing. It is different from back to school night because we won’t have any presentations or anything. Just a fun time for families and the school to get together.

Focus wall:

Pictures are always fun, so here are some pictures from our Math Work Station time!

Students doing math on our interactive board

Students reading math books to eachother

Quack shake and spill. Students have to say how many are on the duck and how many are off, and how much it makes all together.

Students practicing patterns

Candy land turned into math game! Read it, write it , count it.

Notes:
·        On February 4th, our class is going to the public Library. This is a very relaxed field trip. We are going for a few hours to get a tour of the library, have a story time, look a books, and play. We won’t be checking out any books during this time. We are taking one class at a time so we do not need parent volunteers, though they are always welcome!

·        Just a reminder that class does start at 8:30. I know it is sometimes hard to get there on time, but please try because this is still valuable learning time in the morning. Students always have some type of work to do when they come in, and this is a time I get to work with students individually. Missing 1o minutes every day totals to almost a week of school a year!!! It really does add up.

1/13

Good Afternoon I hope everyone has had a lot of relaxation and rest this weekend. As most of you know we have had a lot of sick students last week, however I hope we are all at the tail end of it, and we can some back next week healthy and energized!

This last week we were able to finish most of our Dibels testing; we will finish the last few next week. I am excited to share how all of the students are doing. I might be a little biased but I think we have some amazing students here!

In math we have been working on building numbers and taking apart numbers. We use math sentences like 2 and 3 make 5. The students have done great with this; most received 100% on their tests. Next week we get to start addition!

In Social Studies we have been learning about the weather and seasons. In art we made the four seasons with our hand prints. These will be posted on our open house night, along with writing about our favorite season.

Last note, this summer we are doing a Summer Educational Camp for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Attached is a letter about this. I will as well email the letter out.

1-13-14
I hope everyone has had a great start to their New Years. Our class had a great first week, and it flew by! This week we did a lot of assessments, and they will continue into next week with our Dibel and CBM Tests. The students are doing great though; it is really fun to see how far they have progressed in 4 short months! As the year progresses we will start focusing on reading leveled books, writing letters and stories, and doing  addition and subtraction problems.

Focus:
Our focuses for this week will stay the same.

Notes:
-As everyone probably knows the flu has been going around, so I just wanted to remind parents to wash student’s hands often, make sure they are wearing appropriate attire for outside play, and get lots of rest!

-The 29th is a teacher work day to complete report cards. If you would like to meet for a parent conference please let me know, otherwise the report cards will be sent home and asked to return. I personally like parent conferences because it gives us time to discuss in person how things are going and answer questions without interruptions, even if it is for a short 20 minute conference.

-The 28th is our school open house! Our class will be sending home invitations, but please put it on your calendars now! It is a fun time for the kids to show you around the room and show off all their hard work.

I hope everyone has enjoyed their winter break! My family had a nice break, though my son was sick for the most of it so we stayed home a lot and relaxed. Needless to say I got a lot of work done!
