Reading- continuing to work on substituting sounds and reading our leveled readers. We have also been talking a lot about characters. setting, problems, and solutions in our stories. This would be a wonderful thing to reinforce at home as well!

Writing- We just finished our Informational Text Unit and had our Writer's Celebration on Tuesday. I keep their best piece to put in their portfolio, but I will send the rest home.

Math- We just finished our unit on positional words. This was a breeze for the kiddos! Next chapter will be 2D shapes.

Bible- In Bible we learned about the story of Zacchaeus. We talked about how even if we lie or still we c an still make it right by apologizing and repenting.

*Our Bible verses will become a little more difficult. We will be reciting Psalm 23 for our graduation. This is a long verse but a powerful one! We will learn little chunks along with the signs leading up to graduation*

Have a Wonderful and Restful Weekend,

Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. Lee

In celebration of earth day we talked about and experimented with oil spills. (Yes,  I know I was very brave to put large bowls of water in the middle of a kindergarten filled table! )

They experimented with the best ways to clean up an oil spill.

I'm so proud of what they took away from this.  One girl told her mom they need to make less messes so they don't have to use as many paper towels because it's killing the trees! Her mom was on board with this; )

4/14/2016

I hope everyone is adjusting from coming back from Spring break. I know it was a little tough for our family! Besides being a little more wiggly, the kids are doing great! I will start by saying I am sorry for the lack of pictures this week!

Dates not to miss!

4/22- Spring/ kindergarten graduation pictures. Next Friday students will be taking their graduation pictures. To order pictures look in your child's folder for a half sheet with ordering imformation.

4/28- take you child to work day. Please let us know if your child will not be in school this day. Thank you!

4/26- Writers Celebration! All parents are welcome to come and share in this fun with us! We will hold our celebration at 2:15.

5/6- Mother's Day Tea. I will know the exact time next week, so keep your eyes out for an invitation! The tea is about an hour long. Students do a little performance, have a gift for you, and share tea, juice and cookies together. They get so excited about this day, it's definitely not one you want to miss!

6/10- last day of school/ Kindergarten Graduation/ half day!

In reading our class has been focusing on reading CVC words, reviewing our sight words and letters, and substituting first sounds. Substituting first sounds is similar to rhyming, I say "If I have the word cat and I took away the /c/ and added a /b/, what word would I have?" At first this is a difficult task, however once they relate it to rhyming or word families they understand it better. This would be a great skill to practice in the car!

We have been doing a lot of writing lately! We have been creating our own class book that will be published! I will tell you more about this soon! We are also working on our information test unit. The students have been having so much fun writing about everything they know about!

In math we h ave been learning all sorts of things! We have been learning the different way to sort objects, the values of coins, how to tell time, and we have been practicing our addition and subtraction fluency! This is the time of year that we get our little kinders ready for the first grade, and there is so much to learn. It is so fun to watch them blossom though!

In Bible we read the story of how Jesus loves the children and loves to spend time with them. We also talked about how we spend time with the people we love.

This week in science we are finishing up our unit on the ocean. The students have been having a great time learning all about the different animals. Next week we will be tying in our ocean unit with Earth Week. We will be talking about pollution in the ocean.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
