March 28th

Happy Friday! I am so very excited for this weekend. I think around this time every year everyone starts getting spring fever. I think I have counted 10 weeks left! I’m going to miss them though! Look at me I am sad and still have 2.5 months! Anyways...=)

In Literacy this week we are still working on reading fluently, comprehending what we are reading, and sounding out words in our heads. In writing we are learning how to write stories about our lives. They have learned how to pick a topic, and write about the 5 W’s (Who, what, where, when, why). They are finishing up their rough drafts, and next week we will type up a final draft for them to illustrate.

Here are pictures of the kids mailing their letters to Disney characters today. It was pretty adventurous! We had to cross the road and keep all the students in a line because our mail box is by the road. We made it back safely though=)

In math we are continuing to practice addition and subtraction fluency, counting and writing numbers to 100, and lastly measurement and data.

We just finished up our Ocean Books that I would like to send home on the next conference. I picked a few students who tried their very best on the book to win a prize of an extra recess and doughnut. I am really trying to encourage them to do their best on everything.

In Bible we are talking about honesty. Today we sent a letter home explaining more about this. Please look in their folders to read it! Also in bible we are continuing our bible verse, Psalm 23 1-6. I thought it would be helpful if I posted the signs that I am using to go along with the verse.I do the same signs but our bible version is a little different, if that makes sense.  We will be  doing this whole verse on graduation day=)

Psalm 23:1-4

"The Lord is my Shepherd, and I shall not want. He Makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of he shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies."

  • ·         We are doing a Mother’s day tea party this year. We will send out an invitation next month, but wanted to give a heads up in case you need to take a few hours off work. It will be in the late morning, 10ish.
  • ·         Please check student’s folders.
  • ·         April 1st is the last day to get early registration discount for the summer camp and for school.
  • ·         In May we are holding an auction for the school. Our class will be doing a basket. I wanted to do a picture of the kids spelling out Love with their bodies. If you have other ideas, or anything you think would go good with this let me know! Thanks!

March 21st

March 21st,

This week flew by with our field trip on Monday and having today off.
In literacy we have been practicing writing letters, the students have written a lot of letters lately! They have written to a person of their choice, God, the Portland Aquarium, and lastly to a Disney Land character. We are experimenting with this, Miss Jones read that if you sent a letter to a certain address at Disney land they will send back a postcard with an autograph. I hope it works, that would be exciting. We have also been doing a lot of reading. Students are working on sounding out words in their heads, and reading more fluently. They are doing amazing!

In math you may have noticed more papers coming home. Every day we practice counting to 100 on a hundreds chart, then we are progressively working up to writing our numbers to 100. If they miss more than a couple I have them repeat it the next day.  I review it with them as well. Another paper that you see coming home is addition and subtraction tests. They have one minute to finish the problems. If they don’t finish I let them try again the next day. By the end of Kindergarten students should be able to add and subtract within 5 fluently.

Here are some pictures from our field trip:

Super cute dress Mrs. Thoma!

They were being caged having fun in a little cave. Hehe

They were able to pet manta-rays. They also had sharks, but they wouldn't come up to us=(

Some student's were brave enough to touch the these little guys (Forgot the name!)

Students were feeding the fish little shrimps.

Here is our focus wall and art project for next week:

Notes:
·        I sent home a field trip permission trip for OMSI on April 18th. This was planned to be a half day, however we have decided to make this a full day so we can explore the Museum for longer. .

We have started a new little reward program. One for positive reinforcement, and because it is getting nice and picnics sound fun=) On Friday's, if a student has not clipped down at all during the week they get to have picnic with Miss Jones and myself, inside or outside.

I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful weekend!

3-15-14

Well I cannot believe we have less than 3 months left of school! Time is going quick, and I think the next couple months will keep going that way, especially with Spring break coming up!

I wanted to say sorry for not sending home bible verse test sheets the last couple weeks! We are practicing them at school, and actually the last couple weeks we have been building on top of the prior verse. So this week they will know 3 consecutive verses.

I did remember to take pictures this week, so here are some of them=)

These pictures are from Friday, we learned about coral reefs and did a painting to go with it.

Here is our letters to God. They were pretty cute.
"Are there angels in heaven? Is there Jesus?" Love Clark

"Dear God, I love you. And I went to Disney land and I went on a water slide. Love alana"
"To God, How big is Jesus? How big are you? I love you! How big is Heaven. Love Kayla"

Dear God, Is there a lot of jewels in heaven? Love Blake"

"Dear God, Is there gold in heaven? Is there 2,000 gold? Love Dylan"

"To God, Do angels and you fly like that? Do angels really have wings? Love Eliza"

"Dear God, I am going to the beach. Love Timothy"

Here is our All About Oceans chart, and some of the crafts we did.

Lastly, here are the students learning about measurement. We all measured each other and talked about who was taller or shorter.

Hope everyone enjoyed the pictures! They are my favorite part about my blog, unfortunately sometimes I forget to take them!

Notes:
